They Owe Us

How do you describe the duo They Owe Us? Musically completely lawless with experience and routine that is enough to fill A4 pages. If you like that sort of thing.

Rane and Kris meet for the first time at a house party in Fräntorp. The casual conversation quickly turns to music, as Rane works as a piano tuner and studio technician and Kris as a drum builder and studio technician. They soon realize that they have a common fondness for Kraftwerk, Zombies, SBTRKT, yes, anything that gives distortion and half-warped harmonies. When, many beers later, the music talk turns to childhood memories, they find even more similarities, as both of their upbringings are quite far from the Svensson norm. Rane grew up on a pig farm and Kris in a boarding school for the disabled. "Dude, we need to start a band!"

A few months later, the duo locked themselves in Vintage Loft Studios. Prosecco, princess cake, a rickety drum kit, vintage synths, a wayward MPC drum machine and lyrics about alienation, betrayal, passionate love created the debut album "Broken English & Sad Serenades". On "Broken English & Sad Serenades" you can hear, among other things, "Dont Think About Me" - like a hand-rolled cigarette under the fan with dreams of a better tomorrow. There you can hear the wedding song "Brushing Off The Dust", the electro dance "There Is A Way, If There Is A Will" with its analog pitched vocal sound and the frustrated "Heavily Distorted Nightmare" where the choir ends with the words "Din jävla clown! Fattar du inte att jag tycker om dig".

Many of the songs are recorded live, late at night with a fuck it mentality and feel. Both Rane and Kris sing lead and no song is the same, simply because it was the most natural. Reine Fiske from Dungen helps out on some of the songs, for the simple reason that he is the duo's favorite guitarist. The record was mixed by Hans Olsson Brookes during two intense days in the Swedish Grammophon Studio. As an unexpected mixing ingredient, the band enlisted the help of the map readers' map reader Tina Thörner. She was in the studio to record a radio show and the coffee breaks and conversations with Tina about everything but music were - according to everyone involved - the absolute best cleansing filter. Just a week after the record was f erdigmixad got They Owe Us a record deal with American One-RPM and now collaborates with publishers such as Concord Publishing, among others.
